Volunteering

This project could not happen without our volunteers. A huge thank you is extended to all those who have given their time, enthusiasm and expertise so far.

You don’t need to know about boats, or theatres, or restoration projects. The more the merrier on this cruise.

After some hours a shout came from inside Kilsby, ‘That’s it, she is empty’. I wandered over to the dry dock. A transformation had occurred. In place of the huge pile of rubbish, there lay an elegant 100 year old iron sided narrow boat with an elm bottom. Beautiful in its simplicity. Hard to believe that such a simple vessel could have survived carrying heavy cargoes over a long period of time.

All of us gathered in the mud, on the canal side, on that winter day dared to share an unlikely dream. To see the second transformation – the sight of KIlsby, a rare and historic boat, restored to her former glory – and maybe even a chance of a trip up the cut.
